Yet again I managed to neglect my camera for the better part of the weekend. But obviously, as you guys might suspect, I headed to the coast for July 4th and did all of the usual things: I hung out with my family, went out on the boat, didn’t make it to the bar on any given night, and watched the July 4th parade in Beaufort.
Wait, at least that last one was different.
Check out some photos from the parade, Tea Party float and all…
You know I had to start off with the most tough American photo I had…
Let the procession of old cars begin… You got one? Bring it on, get in the parade!
And the crowd that turned up? Pretty impressive…
Oh, wait, you have a tractor too?! Drive it down here. GET IN THE PARADE!
My grandmother, the reason we always attend the July 4th parade, made her appearance on the Town of Beaufort (boat) float, tossing candy. She’s in the red hat.
Peanut (our family’s mom’s dog) didn’t like the festivities, but I think it was less the actual crowds and parade and more the loud noises and his hatred for bicyclists.
Oh, you wanted to be in the parade but don’t own a tractor a classic car? Well, you can bike or roller blade too!
It being Beaufort and one of the many homes of Blackbeard, the pirates were obviously in attendance.
Annnd in case you didn’t get enough of them at Shackleford or Carrot Island, more horses!
There were dancing ladies too. These women are always a hit. (I mean I keep asking why grandma why she prefers politics to wearing a wig and doing a choreographed dance through the streets…)
I guess these particular ladies felt like they’d put in their dancing time and that this year, they were just gonna ride, dammit!
This is the cute little Mullet Line trolley that you can take up and down Front Street in Beaufort for $1, though I have yet to do so. Probably because I can walk to the bars from my house… and it doesn’t run late at night.
And the double decker bus that’ll give you a historic tour of Beaufort. It makes a trip down our road to show all the tourists Blackbeard’s house.
Am I a creep for loving this kid? And zooming in to take his picture?
Hey Charlie, this is how I’d like to arrive to all events from now on! Oh, you’ll need to wear that suit as well.
On the left: some wearable bird-like contraption. On the right: A skeleton riding a tricycle (by itself!) that was possibly the coolest thing in the parade. I have no idea how it worked! Maybe a remote control?
And just in case you forgot what part of the country you were in, or you wanted your own free tiny flag or copy of the Constitution (yes, they hand them out every year), the Tea Party folks!
Yes, Charlie did want his tiny flag. It went with his outfit…
Post-boat ride, we gathered for hot dogs… and beer… and wine…
Oh, hey Aunt Anne, you look happy to be here!
Then we had more family time, tunes, and dogs. And by the evening, we may have been July 4th’d out…
